What You'll Walk Away With

Not features. Results.

01

Real jiu-jitsu, on your terms

Same 10th Planet curriculum as our main class — in a room where you're surrounded by other women. Nothing watered down.

02

Training partners your size

Practicing technique with someone closer to your own frame makes every drill work better and every lesson stick faster.

03

Genuine self-defense

Jiu-jitsu is the most effective martial art for situations where size and strength are against you. These are skills that actually work.

04

A community, not a scene

No cliques, no egos, no performative toughness. Just real women getting better at a hard skill, together.

Your First Class

Exactly what happens
when you walk in.

The hardest part is the first class. Here's what it looks like — so you walk in knowing what to expect.

  1. 1

    Show up 15 minutes early

We'll greet you at the door, show you around, and get your waiver signed in under 2 minutes. Loaner gear is ready if you need it.

  2. 2

    Warm up with the class

You'll join the group warm-up. Nothing wild — mobility, light cardio, shadow drills. Listen to your body; we don't haze new students.

  3. 3

Learn a technique and drill it

A coach walks the class through the day's technique step-by-step, then you pair up and drill with a friendly training partner coached to look after beginners.

  4. 4

Water break and go home proud

You won't be thrown into the deep end. You'll leave knowing one real thing better than when you arrived — and ready for class two.

Michael Bartlett

Lead Jiu-Jitsu Instructor · 10th Planet Cookeville

Michael has been training martial arts since he was 6 years old. He earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at age 14 under Jack Scott. In 2010, he began training Jiu-Jitsu under Buddy Hallum — a brown belt under Helio Soneca — and discovered 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu soon after. He found immediate success with the 10th Planet system in the gym and in competition and never looked back. Today Michael loves sharing his knowledge with students and MMA competitors who want to sharpen their grappling.

Still not sure? Book a free tour — 20 minutes in person beats any phone call.

I've never done anything athletic. Is this really for me?+
Yes. Most of our women's class students started with no athletic background. The class meets you where you are — coaches modify everything for your level.
Will there be live rolling my first class?+
No. New students drill technique for weeks before rolling. When you do roll, it's with someone the coach picks specifically to look after you.
What should I wear?+
A rash guard and athletic shorts or leggings (no pockets or zippers — they catch fingers). We have loaner gear for your first class if needed.
